April 23rd Update

Apologies for the lack of update last week, things are pretty hectic right now, I got the concept done, I got the concept done, I just couldn’t get around to posting an update. But luckily that means two concepts this week:

First up is the landmark of the Factory sector, the Smoke stack, the idea behind this one is that its at least twice the height of every other factory in the area, the smoke being pumped out by it will do well to help the mood in other areas too anytime I want things to look overcast.

The second is the Truth club in the Upper district, its owned by Indigo and this influenced a lot of the colours of this building, its a pretty important set piece so I wanted to make sure it looked lavish.

Season 1 Background Buildings

My second biggest milestone after the background characters

I feel this puts me overall past the half way point with the concept art. These milestones are really important to keeping motivation throughout the boring parts.

February 26th Update

Only one background concept before we start getting to the interesting stuff:

Like last week I’m sticking with the variation in colour, but where last week was getting resources out of the ground now it has to be sorted before it can be sent off to the factory district, which is what these building are for. Mana would be dumped on the longer ramp, inside it would be sorted, then grouped together and sent through to the smaller ramp into a waiting truck below.
The inspiration for these was the old coal mines of America:

I purposely kept it simpler than this image to give it a more clinical look.

September 18th Update

The Final Factory this week, took a little bit of a different approach this week:

the Storage Tanks were something I think the district really needed, both from a world-building perspective and a way of adding variety to the scenes, I’m quite happy with them.
I think I’ve finally perfected drawing cylinders enough to move onto some of the more advanced Alther kin buildings, which I’m really looking forward to working on now

In other news, I have to apologise for the lateness of this update, I’m back to college this week and things are unfortunately up in the air with my scheduled, there may be another delay next week as well, but after that things should start getting back to normal with the updates.

September 10th Update

Nearly didn’t make this one in time, stuff is getting pretty busy going back to college, but anyway here is this week’s concepts:

Like last week I decided to keep the shapes simple, these buildings are oppressive monoliths, the other reason I kept them simple is that I have quite a lot on my plate with college and another important project opportunity, I can’t really discuss it right now, but if it succeeds it may be just what I need to get Fade the boost it needs to get the pilot made. All that said I’m not going to get anyone’s hopes up by giving anymore details.

September 3rd Update

Slowly getting through these piece by piece, This week I started working on the factories of the city:

These were important buildings to draw because of the smoke stacks, I actually have trouble drawing cylinders, especially uniform ones like this, but with a combination of the previous drawing techniques I’d been using combined with some photoshop tweaking I think I have a fast way of drawing them.

I also based the colour schemes off of the Warehouses I’d done previously I liked the grey washed out colours that I feel look oppressive and cold, contrasting with the other warmer areas.
