April 9th Update

Second redesign, With Anguis’ Weapon we’re half way through the redesigns:

SnakeSlayer2

Like with Naga’s weapon, I took the elements I liked the most from the multiple weapons and combined them into one:

SnakeSlayer

I’m actually quite happy with the result. It has the adaptability I want for choreography with the sleek style I wanted.

Its a short update this week, largely because I’m spending a lot of time researching architecture for the buildings I’m going to be attempting for the next milestone, which has been tricky since its such a vast subject, but from what I’ve gathered three things are important: The people using a building, the location its built and the purpose of the building, which like most of my research seems obvious in hindsight, but I was planning on jumping into it without thinking about these things, focusing on the silhouette of the building and working in without considering how humans or Otherkin would use the buildings or what problems these groups would encounter when building them. I’m looking forward to brainstorming these things.

Febuary 5th Update

OK, its been a while since the last updates, but I have another milestone down, the last of the main characters weapons are done, first up is Anguis:

SnakeSlayer

In volume 5 of Rwby the show started introducing background characters with pistols mixed with Daggers, which I like the idea of, and wanted to use in Fade

As for the designs themselves, I’m not sure which one I’ll go with, I like the handle from the bottom one, the blade from the top one, and the gun barrel from the middle, there is good points in each. For now I’ll have to model each one to see if there are parts I can mix and match.

Second up is one of Amber’s weapons:

beeStings

Amber only has a handful of scenes in season 1, and her only fight is during a formal event (which I still need to design outfits for the cast, Even Amber’s here is a quick sketch), but its a good place to give a quick view of what she can do, she’s a tinkerer and has a lot of tech, so I wanted to show this with her using a pair of opera Gloves with Tasers built in, the biggest challenge was making it actually clear that’s what they are. I had three choices I illustrated here, a slipped on glove, Armor she places on when the fighting begins, or gloves that a designed to look like normal Opera gloves that she can activate.
I’m leaning the most toward the Bottom design, since I feel since she’s a very rules orientated character, she’d be ready to fight at all times.

And that’s it for the main character’s weapon designs, I’ll be moving onto the Side characters next week!

Anyway, here is this week’s progress:

  • Character Concepts
    • Background extras:42/42
    • Main Characters: 13/13
    • Main character re-designs: 5/5
    • Secondary Character: 14/14

    • Main Characters: 12/12
    • Secondary Characters: 0/7
  • Scene Concepts
    • Interiors: 0/24
    • Exteriors: 0/20

That’s all for this week,
Until next time

October 1st Update

Another redesign this week, Anguis from the Blind fold code:
Anguis2

I was happy with the majority of his original design, like his hoodie and hair, but there were a few elements that I had to change. First, his original colour scheme was a bit too bright and hard on the eyes:

Anguis

So I muted the neon cyan of the t-shirt and had it match the blue of Pamu’s Hoodie:
Pamu

Since Pamu has the darker colour scheme overall I think I’ll brighten up the blue sections of her hoodie when I get to her redesign. Secondly I didn’t like the short sleeved hoodie, so I took the stitched pants Idea from last week and applied it to the sleeves.

A really unexpected consequence of these redesigns is I’m able to see how far I’ve improved since I started the concepts, i’m half tempted to redraw all of the main cast, but I don’t think I’ll be able to find time, especially since there is still so much I still have to get on paper, so for now they’ll have to wait.

Now, onto this week’s status on concepts:

  • Background extras:42/42
  • Main Characters: 13/13
  • Main character re-designs: 3/5
  • Secondary Character: 14/14
  • Secondary Character re-designs: 0/5

That’s all for this week,
Until next time

Anguis and template progress

The final blindfold code member Anguis:
Anguis

I really like the design of this character, I wanted to have one character in bight colours to really highlight the darker colours of the others, he’s based largely off of Shuuya and Hibiya from Mekakucity Actors.

I also really liked the mask shuuya has in several pictures of him, so I’ve used it as inspiration for another character I’ll be showing at a later date. The One thing I don’t like is my actual artwork, I’m really not at a professional standard, and while it works for concepts, its going to be a pain if I ever need to do any 2D artwork. I have an illustrator who said they would help, but until I have some way to pay them, I really don’t feel comfortable having them do the massive amounts of artwork that may be required. I’ll update you guys as I brainstorm this.

In 3D news I’ve been working away at the male template character, which is coming along nicely:

MaleTemplate2

Most of the work went into the face, which I had to rebuild a couple of times to make it easier to unwrap later, but so far its really benefited from my work on the female template. Like with the female template I’m planning on leaving the hands and finer muscle detail till nearly till the end, but overall its progressing nicely.

So now that our villains are out of the way what’s next? Well next week I’ll be going into the supporting cast of the show!

Till then
